City & Guilds Certificated Courses

Did you know that the Embroiderers' Guild is an approved City & Guilds centre, offering embroidery courses at our Hampton Court Palace premises, with well known tutors who are specialists in particular embroidery techniques?

We currently offer certificated courses in stumpwork tutored by Kay Dennis, hand embroidery with tutor Jenny Bullen, machine embroidery taught by Pam Watts, and goldwork embroidery with Tracy Franklin.

Because these courses take place where we house our Museum Collection, participants are also able to see historical examples of their chosen technique. For example, stumpwork students explore the techniques which characterise 17th century stumpwork, and as well as trying these techniques for themselves they can, with the Guild's senior curator, see at first hand 17th century embroideries from the Guild Collection. Students on the hand embroidery and machine embroidery courses also have opportunities to enjoy embroidery from the collection of particular relevance to their courses.
