The panel was stitched in 1900. It was given to the Embroiderers' Guild by Miss Williams in 1964. The background fabric is woven satin, furnishing fabric. The design is worked in coloured floss silks. The background stitches are couched threads where long lengths of thread are laid on the fabric and held in place by diagonal straight stitches. The stems are satin stitch, where straight stitches are stitched close together. The tendrils are chain stitch. Parrots, grapes and leaves are stitched in straight stitches, using different coloured threads to create a shading effect.
The Challenge is open to all members of the Embroiderers' Guild.
