Embroiderers' Guild - 100 years of achievement

outreach and community projects

Common Threads project

The Guild's developing outreach activity supports our aim of teaching how to embroider and teaching through embroidery, extending these opportunities to wider communities by working in partnership with fellow museums, charities and local authorities.

Common Threads is an enormously successful collaborative concept and programme, conceived by the Embroiderers' Guild and the London Borough of Merton in 2004 bringing together schools and communities, by enabling groups of all ages and mixed abilities to learn together through the medium of textile art. This is now an annual event. The work from each programme is exhibited locally and at major art and craft exhibitions.
